The ribbon on the door was cut by Olympic rower James Foad at 8:00 am, and the car park quickly filled up as shoppers descended on the store. The freehold of the site – previously a Co-op store – was acquired for Aldi by Cradick Retail. This acquisition lead to the redevelopment of the life-expired building to create a brand new town centre facility. Beautiful leaded windows – features of the site from when it was a convent – have been retained and incorporated into the new building.
